About Wardwell Manor

There is some debate about how old the structure is, but it may have been a chapel for the Westminster Presbyterian Church in 1865. The first record of it being a private residence was in 1880 when it was the home of Frank Roberts Carswell, a local architect, his wife Emma Smyth Carswell, and her mother Amanda Melvina Smyth, who was the widow of Thomas Alfred Smyth, the last general to die during the Civil War.

The house has passed through multiple families since the mid-20th century and is now the home of the current owners, the Wardwells. As Delaware natives, we cherish being a part of the rich history of this house.

Meet the Owners

We are Lori & Darin and we love to share our love of food and travel. We are the proud parents of our son Wilson and enjoy spending time with him exploring new places and trying new cuisines. Together, we make a dynamic trio who are always eager to share their passions with others.

We believe that good food and good company go hand in hand, and we are always happy to open our home to friends and family. Whether it’s a casual dinner party or a more formal affair. We strive to be hosts who make everyone feel at ease by extending the warmth of our home as a reflection of love for life and desire to share it with others.
